Marcus Norris writes of Spanish pianist José Menor premiering a short work for piano entitled "Lake Turkana":
Lake Turkana is a large lake in Kenya, crossing over the
border into Ethiopia. Archeologists found remains of a prehistoric child while
searching near there in 1984. This child, later named “Turkana Boy”, is believed
to be between 1.5 and 1.6 million years old. They hypothesize he was only
around eight years old when he died.
This piece draws inspiration from reflecting on our deepest roots, our earliest questions, and timeless feelings that have been part of Man’s story since before we can remember.
