The 2017-2018 season of St. Louis Symphony Live at the Pulitzer will be led by co-artistic directors SLSO pianist Peter Henderson and Gemma New, Resident Conductor at the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and Director of the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra. Oct 4 concert to feature works by Karlheinz Stockhausen, Steve Reich, Michael Johanson, Julius Eastman and Fred Onovwerosuoke.

Fred Onovwerosuoke's "Five Kaleidoscopes," commissioned in 2013 by Rebeca Omordia, is a set of musical vignettes inspired by a variety of life experiences. Kaleidoscope No. 1 captures a beehive before the bees move camps - a sonic metaphor for humanity's restless pursuits... No. 2 is a tone poem of sorts. No. 3, the most performed of the set, is a romance, a nostalgia of being back in a lover's arms, - AFRICA - beholding its beautiful landscapes, its innate repose,... No. 4 indeed mirrors a dark Nubian folktale, of forbidden love and the coquettish dance of defiance... Kaleidoscopes No. 5, a tour de force loosely surrogative of restless "sikuti" dance rhythms of Eastern Africa, drawing from the perils of thunderstorms, attending commotion, and the frantic hunt for shelter!
