Miss Price’s symphony is worthy of a place in the repertory,” said the Chicago Daily News of the premiere of the Symphony in E minor by Florence Price (1887-1953). This 1933 performance by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra was a landmark: the first symphony by an African-American woman to be played by an international orchestra.
