Anthony Elliott and Toni-Marie Montgomery to present recital January 21 at Holy Names University
Cellist Anthony Elliott, Professor of Cello at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance, and pianist Toni-Marie Montgomery,
Dean of the Henry and Leigh Bienen School of Music and the first
African-American
dean at Northwestern University, will present a recital on Saturday,
January 21, 2017 at Holy Names University in Oakland, California.
Presented by Four Seasons Arts, Inc., the
recital will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Regents’ Theatre in the Valley
Center for the Performing Arts. The evening’s program includes sonatas
by Samuel Barber, David Baker and Richard Strauss.

Artist Biographies
Anthony
Elliott, a protégé of Janos Starker and Frank Miller, is an in-demand
soloist, chamber music performer, and teacher. He has performed with the
New York Philharmonic, Minnesota
Orchestra, Detroit Symphony, Vancouver Symphony, and CBC Toronto
Orchestra. Elliott studied with two legendary figures of the cello,
Janos Starker and Frank Miller. Presently he is a Professor of Music at
the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
A graduate of the University of Michigan
and the Philadelphia College of Performing Arts, Toni-Marie Montgomery
was a founding member of the Black Music Repertory Ensemble of Columbia
College Chicago. She has performed throughout
the United States and in Australia, Brazil, Hawaii, Poland, Lithuania,
and Latvia. Montgomery received the 2016 Golden Baton Award from Midwest
Young Artists, which honors individuals who have made significant
contributions to classical music.
Elliott and Montgomery have recorded a CD of cello-piano music by African American
composers.
