MUSIC FOR MY LOVE – ‘A TAJ MAHAL IN SOUND’
Unique project to commemorate lost love
Over 100 pieces of new music:
probably the biggest-ever undertaking of its kind
Format: CD/digital
Label: Toccata Classics
Release date: 11 November 2016
Music For My Love
is exactly what it says it is: an extraordinary project to record 100+
pieces of new music for string orchestra written to celebrate the life
of Yodit Tekle (partner of Martin Anderson of Toccata
Classics), brought to an early end by illness. Vol. 1 – with eleven new
works – is being released in November. It is estimated that the entire
project may require ten or twelve CDs and cost around £200,000; any
profits go to charity.

Music For My Love
is (we think) the first effort in classical music to formulate a public
commemoration of lost love – a kind of Taj Mahal in sound. When Martin
lost Yodit to stomach cancer last year, he turned to his composer
friends to ask for pieces in her memory. The response went beyond
anything he had imagined: almost everyone said yes. And the project has
kept expanding (and is still growing): there are now over 100 composers
involved. The eleven whose music features on Volume One include some of
the best-known names among contemporary composers: Brahms (arr.
Söderlind), Maddalena Casulana (arr. Colin Matthews), Brett Dean, Steve
Elcock, Andrew Ford, Robin Holloway, Mihkel Kerem, Deep Purple’s Jon
Lord (arr. Paul Mann), John Pickard, Poul Ruders and Ragnar Söderlind.
