B2: Alpenglow

Rossini, Schnyder, Bruckner

Alpenglow

The alphorn is rarely found as an instrument in concert halls - making it ideal for a concert as part of our series B, the "Special".
Now it is no surprise that it was precisely a Swiss composer who immortalized her instrumental as a national symbol in compositions. So also was born in Zurich in 1961 jazz saxophonist, flutist and composer Daniel Schnyder. On Alphorn Arkady Shilkloper be experienced whose unusual control of the alphorn and his creativity has set new wind standards.
Following are Rossini's Overture to "William Tell" and Bruckner's 6th Symphony "glow." The latter is one of the rarer played symphonies of Austria and is considered one of his most daring and demanding playing technique. Bruckner himself described it as his "boldest symphony" - and probably not only because of the word game.

Gioacchino Rossini (1792 - 1868)

Overture to "William Tell"

Daniel Schnyder (* 1961)

Concerto for Alphorn

Anton Bruckner (1824 - 1896)

Symphony no. 6 in A major

Soloist: Arkady Shilkloper

Conductor: Brandon Keith Brown
