(NOBLE) Announces Commitment to President Obama's My Brother's Keeper
(MBK) Initiative that will focus on Improving Relationships Between
Youth and Law Enforcement

[Alexandria, VA] The National Organization of Black Law
Enforcement Executives (NOBLE) today announced a commitment to President
Obama's My Brother's Keeper (MBK) initiative that will focus on
improving relationships between youth and law enforcement. NOBLE will
deliver its Law and Your Community program to the cities, counties,
towns and tribal nations that have accepted the MBK Community Challenge
(MBK Communities) as part of its ongoing effort to help strengthen and
revitalize relationships and partnerships between communities and law
enforcement.
"On behalf of NOBLE's executive board, chapter members, and
constituents, we are excited to support a key goal of the My Brother's
Keeper initiative by providing interactive program resources aimed at
improving communication and relationships between law enforcement and
all of our nation's children including boys and young men of color,"
stated Gregory A. Thomas, NOBLE National President. "Our membership and
chapters are uniquely poised to provide youth in MBK Communities with
the career experiences and mentorship that they need, and through our
signature Law and Your Community program, we can also provide them with a
chance to be an integral part of our efforts to better communicate with
the communities we serve."
NOBLE National President Gregory A. Thomas announced the new
effort at the organization's Annual Training Conference in Washington,
DC, where Senior White House official and MBK Task Force Chairman
Broderick Johnson was presented with the "Civil Rights Justice by Action
Youth Award." This award is presented to a youth or youth program
designed to educate students about the struggles associated with the
Civil Rights movement and reinforces the importance of fostering
positive relations with individuals of different races, ages, ethnic
origin, gender, religious backgrounds, and/or physical and mental
abilities.
"We're deeply grateful to NOBLE and its members for the
selfless work they do every day to keep our children and communities
safe across the nation," stated Broderick Johnson, Assistant to the
President, Cabinet Secretary, and Chair of the My Brother's Keeper Task
Force. "We applaud today's announcement that NOBLE members will continue
to go above and beyond, not only protecting our communities, but
working hard to strengthen relationships between law enforcement and the
youth they serve."
MBK Communities will be able to request the Law and Your
Community program by contacting NOBLE local chapters or their world
headquarters starting today. The Law and Your Community is an
interactive training program for young people ages 13-18 designed to
improve their communications and relationships with law enforcement
officers and their understanding of their federal, state and local laws.
NOBLE will also participate in several upcoming youth roundtables
hosted by MBK Communities in the coming weeks.
Roughly six months after establishing MBK, President Obama issued
the My Brother's Keeper Community Challenge in September 2014 as a call
to action for cities, Tribal Nations, towns, and counties to build and
execute their own robust cradle-to-college-and-career MBK plans of
action. There is now at least one MBK Community in each of the 50
states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. Additionally, there
are now MBK Communities in 19 Tribal Nations, and several statewide MBK
collaborations are underway.
