INTERVIEW AIRS TOMORROW ON “CBS THIS MORNING” (7:00-9:00 AM); AN EXCERPT WAS BROADCAST TONIGHT ON THE “CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY” (6:30-7:00 PM, ET)

Ieshia Evans, the woman captured in a viral photo calmly facing Louisiana state guards in a long dress after the fatal police shooting of Alton Sterling, sat down with CBS THIS MORNING Co-Host Gayle King today in New York for an interview to be broadcast tomorrow on CBS THIS MORNING (7:00-9:00 AM) on the CBS Television Network.

In an excerpt broadcast tonight on the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY (6:30-7:00 PM, ET), Evans, who stood her ground during the protests, said she stepped up after seeing an officer adjust his weapon. Video clips will be available on www.cbsnews.com.

A transcript of tonight’s excerpt is below:

KING: So how does it go from that to you are now nose to nose with police officers?

EVANS: I'll be honest, I just felt the urge to just walk into the street. And I just—I needed to see them. I needed to see the officers. I needed to see their faces.

KING: So Ieshia, you just walk in the street even though you're told not to walk in the street? And you stand nose to nose and you don't say anything?

EVANS: Nothing.

KING: And what are they saying to you?

EVANS: Nothing. It was silence. It was just—it was a lot of nonverbal communication.

KING: What did you want your silence to say?

EVANS: I'm human. I'm a woman. I'm a mom. I'm a nurse. I could be your nurse. I could be taking care of you. You know? Our children could be friends. We all matter. We don't have to beg to matter. We do matter.
