29 groups will vie for $100,000 grand prize

The University of Michigan is to launch a new competition this week to identify and showcase the highest caliber of chamber music ensembles.
The Ann Arbor school, which announced the program last October, launches M-Prize on Tuesday at its School of Music, Theatre & Dance. The grand prize winner will receive $100,000.
The competition includes two divisions — Junior, for ages up to 18, and Senior, for ages 19-35 — and three categories: strings, woodwinds and open instrumentation.
Twenty-nine groups representing three countries and 17 states have been selected to participate in the semifinal and final rounds. M-Prize received 172 applications from 13 countries.
Competition founder Aaron Dworkin calls it a "game-changer" for chamber music that should draw new audiences.
