Congratulations to the winners of the 19th Annual Sphinx Competition, Cellist Thomas Mesa, Senior Div. ($50,000); Violinist Maria Sanderson, Junior Div. ($10,000)



Thomas Mesa - Cello
Senior Division Winner

25-year-old cellist Thomas Mesa, a student at Manhattan School of Music, was awarded 1st place in the senior division on Sunday, February 7, 2016. He will receive a $50,000 award and have the opportunity to be featured with Sphinx Soloist Program Partners.  

Violinist Annelle K. Gregory won 2nd place with a $20,000 award and was also the recipient of Sphinx's Audience Choice Award sponsored by Mercedes-Benz Financial Services. Cellist Guilherme Nardelli Monegatto won 3rd place with a $10,000 prize and violinist Rubén Rengel wins 4th place with a $5,000 prize.

Junior Division Winner

16-year-old violinist Maria Sanderson, from Morgantown, IN, won 1st place in the junior division Sphinx Competition on Friday, February 5, 2016. Maria will receive a $10,000 award and have the opportunity to be featured with Sphinx Soloist Program Partners.

Cellist Ifetayo Ali won 2nd place with a $5,000 cash prize and double bassist Nicholas Arredondo won 3rd place with a $3,000 cash prize.
