Join the Ann Arbor Symphony
orchestra for the annual Hearts for the Arts fundraiser on Saturday
February 13, 2016 at Barton Hills Country Club. This special evening,
now in its twentieth year, benefits the extensive community-wide youth
educational and artistic programs of the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra which are brought to more than 30,000 children in Southeast Michigan.
This year, the honorary chairs of the event will be Aaron and Afa Dworkin, national leaders in the advancement of music education with strong ties to Ann Arbor. Aaron Dworkin has recently
joined the University of Michigan as Dean of the UM School of Music,
Theatre & Dance, and also was the founder of Sphinx, an organization
providing music education and performance opportunities for African
American and Latino musicians. Afa Dworkin was a member of the Ann Arbor
Symphony
Orchestra and also served on the orchestra committee. Afa is now the
president and artistic director of The Sphinx Organization.
The evening begins with an elegant champagne reception, high-value
raffle, enticing wine pull, and exclusive silent auction, moves to a
gourmet dinner with musical entertainment by the best of our own
musicians led by A2SO Conductor and Music Director Arie Lipsky, and
concludes with an exciting live auction.
The dollars generated by this important event go to the A2SO's education andartistic programs serving over 30,000 youngsters through 50 Ensembles in our Schools, three Youth Concerts, scores of Instrument Petting Zoos, and 15 free KinderConcerts for toddlers. Music Education
programs help children develop critical thinking skills, improve
spatial relationship skills and open new doors of opportunity and
learning.
