Celebrate KWANZAA with SONGS OF AFRICA, A FREE CONCERT! @ STL County Library - Florissant Valley Branch Saturday December 26, 2015 at 2:00 PM

Songs with the universal themes of peace, reflection, celebration and community building, woven around the Seven Principles of Kwanzaa. Reprising "Songs of Peace and Joy," our theme for this season of lights, charity and joy with a variety of songs from Kenya, Namibia, Ghana, Botswana, Benin, Cameroon, the Congos, Nigeria, Uganda, South Africa and from other regions of Africa. Some songs are communal and interactive, often inviting the audience to join in celebrating the joys of the holiday season. A fun event for the whole family and friends

Songs of Africa Ensemble, a multicultural and eclectic group of highly trained musicians promoting new genres of choral music from around Africa and its diaspora. Songs teach about Africa’s music, its peoples, languages and cultures and create opportunities for incorporating new styles of African-descent music into modern choral repertory.  
A majority of the songs are drawn from Songs of Africa: 22 Pieces for Mixed Voices, the choral collection published by Oxford University Press, but often including a lot more songs yet to be published!
