Sergio A. Mims: Chineke! Rehearsal Saturday, September 12, 2015 'was the most intensive orchestra rehearsal I've ever had the privilege to witness.'

Maestro Wayne Marshall Conducts Chineke! Orchestra Rehearsal in Above Photos, Saturday, September 12, 2015

Sergio A. Mims writes:
I've attached a few photos from the orchestra rehearsal today with Conductor Wayne Marshall as they rehearsed the Beethoven 7th symphony, Brahms' Variations on a Theme by Haydn, Coleridge-Taylor's Ballade for Orchestra and Phillip Herbert's Elegy: In memoriam - Stephen Lawrence.
It lasted from early afternoon into past 9PM and was the most intensive orchestra rehearsal I've ever had the privilege to witness. But the energy and enthusiasm from the members of the orchestra and Marshall was inspiring not to mention of course the extraordinary talent of everyone involved. The concert is completely sold out but it will be livestreamed on the Southbank Centre's YouTube page and will be available for viewing later as well
The concert will be preceded by a performance by the Chineke! Junior Orchestra made up of some of the most talented young musicians of African heritage from across the country aged 11 – 17 to perform two movements from Schubert’s Symphony No. 5.
These will be presented alongside an informal discussion with Conductor Wayne Marshall.
