During a visit to the home of legendary pop music artist manager and producer Robert ‘Bumps’ Blackwell during his battle with glaucoma around 2002, he asked me to telephone Quincy Jones and ask Q to rush a quote about Little Richard that could be used In a forthcoming book titled ‘The Life & Times of Little Richard’. During the visit, Bumps used the word Quasar. I had never heard the word before and I asked him the definition. I forgot about the word and definition until watching violinist Annelle Gregory during a 2012 Georgia Laster Branch of NANM competition. I subsequently wrote an Africlassical blog that included “The word/term star is used so frequently, I will distinguish Annelle Gregory as a QUASAR”.

Annelle Gregory is currently studying under Glenn Dicterow, retired concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic, at USC Thornton School of Music. She recently released her debut CD titled ‘Annelle K. Gregory (violin) and Alexander Sinchuk (piano) perform works by Grieg, Mozart, and Szymanowski.

Unfortunately I was far wrong estimating 2002 as the year  I first heard the word Quasar. Kelly, Bumps daughter, reminded me that Bumps died in 1985. Therefore I first heard the word at an uncertain time prior to 1985. [John Malveauz]
