Haiti Earthquake Commemoration Events

Welcome to our special bulletin about upcoming
events to commemorate the fifth anniversary
of the ruinous 7.0 magnitude earthquake that
struck Haiti on January 12,2010.

In Haiti, events will be held throughout the
country to honor the memory of the more
than 250,000 who perished and to salute the
courage of those who survived. Amidst the
devastating loss, the Haitian people came
together, risking their lives to rescue loved
ones and strangers, sharing food and
resources and finding strength in each other,
in their faith and in music.

In the United States, events are being held
across the country as well, and BLUME Haiti is
proud to be among those paying tribute to the
many who lost their lives in the earthquake
and to reflect on the impact it continues to
have on the Haitian people. If you are in
Appleton, Wisconsin or in Tucson, Arizona,
we invite you to attend events we are
sponsoring. Thank you for your support.

Kenbe La - Hold On
Screening at Lawrence University

Monday, January 12, 2015, 6:00 p.m.
Warch Campus Center Cinema
711 E. Boldt Way, Appleton, WI

BLUME Haiti will host a screening of the 2011 film
Kenbe La-Hold On, by Bel Son Productions

Filmed before and after the Jan. 12th, 2010
earthquake, Kenbe La chronicles the work of
musicians and teachers of the Holy Trinity Music
School in Port-au-Prince and the Dessaix Baptiste
Music School in Jacmel. Their experiences
illustrate the ways in which music education
contributes to building strong character and
supportive communities to help combat the
intense needs that exist throughout the country.
These stories reveal music's ability to heal and
unite even amidst the most challenging
circumstances.

Carolyn Desrosiers, a co-director of the film,
will attend the screening and there will also be
several members of the local Haitian
community available to answer questions.
Freewill donations will be accepted before and
after the film screening to benefit BLUME Haiti
