Eastside College Preparatory School Choir
The
African American Composer Initiative held its first ever fund-raiser
event. Thanks to the generosity of those who attended that event, we
have raised half of the funds needed to produce our upcoming concert.
MATCHING GRANT
In order to raise the additional needed funds, an anonymous donor has offered a matching grant. Any donations received before December 31
will be matched dollar for dollar up to $2,500. In order to make the
music available to all, we continue to keep our ticket prices low.
Please consider a donation to help us cover the true costs of producing
these special concerts.
For donations by credit card, please visit this link and be sure to select African American Composer Initiative in the drop-down menu where it says " I want my donation to be designated toward".
For donations by check, please make your check payable to SFFCM
(San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music) with the designation AACI in
the memo line and mail to:
AACI c/o Judge LaDoris Cordell
4124 Wilkie Way
Palo Alto, CA 94306
If you have already made a donation this year, thank you!
CONCERTS AND TICKET SALES
We
hope you will attend one of our two upcoming concerts on Saturday,
January 24, 2015 and Sunday, January 25, 2015. Our theme is "Walk Together",
as we commemorate the 50th anniversary of the passage of the Voting
Rights Act. This program pays homage in music to the life and legacy of
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We will present music composed in his honor
by Valerie Capers, Lena McLin, and Joshua McGhee along with works by
Donny Hathaway, Fats Waller, John Robinson, WG Still, Zenobia Powell
Perry, Dolores White, and Dizzy Gillespie.
AACI gratefully acknowledges the Musical Grant Program of the San
Francisco Friends of Chamber Music for providing a grant to commission a
new composition by McGhee. The program will include a wide range of
music, drawing from the traditions of spirituals, freedom songs, jazz,
and classical styles.
Tickets for the two performances are on sale here through Brown Paper Tickets. Please note that for your convenience you can print tickets at home or have them mailed to you.
As part of our mission to share this music beyond the concert audience, we have created a website: www.aacinitiative.org where we have information on the composers and past performances. You can watch our past performances from 2010 through 2014 by clicking on the previous concerts tab.
Thank you again for your interest and generosity.
Sincerely,
LaDoris Cordell, Jodi Gandolfi, and Deanne Tucker
