Nell and others:  I wanted you to know that another honor will be bestowed on me by the California Chapter of the American Choral Directors Association namely the Howard Swan Award for distinguished service to the profession.  The occasion for the presentation will be at the California ACDA's summer convocation at the Evergreen Conference Center Oakhurst 48303 Highway 41, Oakhurst, CA 93644  on Sunday, July 27 . The site is simply called ECCO.

I am really honored to be added to the list of choral directors who have succeeded in the profession.  A telephone call two weeks ago from president Lori Rios informed me that the executive committee of the ACDA had submitted my name and it was the consensus that I should be this year's person.  Of course this means that Howard Swann, who was a mentor of mine during his time as Chair and Head of Choral Activities at Occidental College, and Director of Music at Pasadena Presbyterian Church, a close associate of Robert Shaw, Fred Waring, charter member of ACDA and a host of others who have already passed this way.  Those that followed are of the same philosophy and have distinguished themselves in the field.  Thanks to the work of the Jubilee Singers, public school choral music at the elementary, Middle, and Senior High School and University levels, I have arrived at this new status.

Thanks to you and others who have directly supported my work.  I offer my humble thanks
