2013 San Diego Symphony youth competition culminated March 30, 2014 with violinist Annelle Gregory and classical alto saxophonist Yenny Zhang  performing with the San Diego Symphony as the "Best and Brightest" and each receiving $1,000 check. Annelle also won the 2013 La Jolla Symphony Young Artist Competition. Annelle is a sophomore at USC Thornton School of Music with a heavy course load (9 classes) and she is preparing for upcoming concerts and international competitions. Annelle is also a frequent contributor to MusicUNTOLD concerts. Beyond potential to become an internationally recognized soloist and recording artist, Annelle has the potential to become a composer, conductor, and televison/film star.

Yenny Zhang was the first young classical alto saxophonist I have seen/heard perform with a symphony orchestra other than a pops concert. I asked her about the availability of classical music for alto saxophone and she gave a positive response. However, she expressed a growing interest in jazz.

Annelle Gregory performed Mozart's Violin Concert No. 4 in D Major, K.218 and Yenny Zhang performed Alfred Desenclos/arr. Russell Peterson's Prelude, Cadence et Finale.

The San Diego Symphony opened the first half with Mozart's Overture to Die Entführung aus dem Serail (The Abduction from the Seraglio), K 218. The entire second half was all four movements of Tchaikovsky's Symphony No.4 in F minor, Op.36 under the dynamic baton of Ken-Davd Masur.
