Waltham Philharmonic Orchestra Woodwind Sextet

Waltham Philharmonic Orchestra (WPO) Woodwind Sextet started spontaneously seven years ago to explore the chamber music repertoire and to enjoy playing music for the sole purpose of creating a shared experience in creating beautiful music in our living rooms. We play twice a month in the evenings for about 3 hours.    As we selected pieces to work on and perfect, we’ve found places to perform and share our efforts and our enthusiasm for this genre.  This idea of performance gave us a goal and a structure and now we select a group of pieces to practice and perfect over the course of each year.  We love the exercise of disciplining ourselves to listen to each other and play as a unit.

Ludwig van Beethoven, Quintet for Piano and winds, Op. 16
Theodor Blumer, Sextet for Piano and wind (Theme and variations), Op. 45
Gunther Schuller, Suite for Woodwind quintet
Denes Agay, Five Easy Dances
