Michael S. Wright: TheGuardian.com: Yusef Lateef obituary American jazz musician who experimented with Middle Eastern and Asian instruments

Yusef Lateef (1920-2013) (Michael Ochs)

Michael S. Wright writes:

Hi William,
I thought others may not be aware of the death of  Yusef Lateef. A highly original composer and performer (tenor sax, flute, and oboe) and he incorporated scales and instruments from Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. His style who successfully crossed the boundaries of jazz, classical European and Middle Eastern music. He composed a number of major works and I cite Yusef Lateef's Little Symphony http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwwDowB0llA in four movements as an example.

Kind regards

Mike
