Tulsa Camerata evening to feature pair of quintets
The Tulsa Camerata gets romantic for its concert at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Philbrook Museum of Art, 2727 S. Rockford Road.
A pair of quintets make up the evening. The Clarinet Quintet in F-sharp Minor, Op. 10, by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, will feature clarinetist David Carter with violinists Laura Talbott and Liza Villarreal, violist Phil Wachowski and cellist Meredith Blecha-Wells.
The String Quintet in A Major is an arrangement of Beethoven's well-known "Kreutzer" Sonata, though who created the arrangement — Beethoven or someone else — is something of a mystery. Cellist Krassimira Figg will join the other string players for this piece.
The two works share another connection: Coleridge-Taylor, the son of English and African parents, was called "the African Mahler" by some critics, and the Kreutzer Sonata was originally written for the African violinist George Bridgetower.
