Ever since his 18th century 23-day
compositional stint, George Frederick Händel has done many rewrites
of his ever popular Easter masterpiece, Messiah. Even the essence of
the style in which the work is written is actually a re-work of sorts
itself. Years later, Mozart would also adapt Messiah to meet
the local audience needs and preferences.
Maestro Richard C. Odom will
masterfully wield the baton in a stunning one-night performance, “An
Evening With The Messiah: Opus 3” combining passionate singing
and a stunning combination of outstanding musicians, featuring
songwriter, producer, composer, and recording artist, Donald
Lawrence. Featured special guest soprano soloist is lyric
coloratura soprano, Katrina Galka.
According to Maestro
Richard C. Odom, there has been one constant in all of his
experiences with adaptations of Messiah, everyone seemed to perform
it either all one way or all another way. His goal is to combine
several styles for a creatively diverse and adaptable work that
presents "a lil' something for everyone.
As Associate Minister of Music and
Artistic Director of this project, Odom arranged a composite of
Händel’s New Young Messiah, Händel’s Messiah – A Soulful
Celebration and the classical oratorio by George Frederick Händel
with libretto by Charles Jennens. Produced by the entire Reid Temple
Christian Fine Arts Ministry, this ecumenical rendering of the
18th-century English oratorio proves enjoyable for everyone.
