Nelson Mandela: 'Man's goodness is a flame that can be hidden but never extinguished'

Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela (1918-2013)

The Eastern Cape Tourism Agency:

New York, NY. December 9th.- The Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency (ECPTA) has learned with sadness of the departure of Tata Nelson Mandela, one of the world's most steadfast leaders.

We take this opportunity to salute him for his lifelong dedication to the realization of a free and peaceful South Africa. His strength, leadership and integrity have been an inspiration to all.

>From the tranquil surroundings of Qunu Village in the Eastern Cape, Madiba rose to become a global symbol of peace and selflessness the world over. The Eastern Cape is proud of its place in history as the cradle of a life lived so selflessly.

As we grapple with our loss, we find comfort in the words Dr. Mandela once uttered: "Death is something inevitable. When a man has done what he considers to be his duty to his people and his country, he can rest in peace. I believe I have made that effort and that is, therefore, why I will sleep for the eternity."

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Mandela family during this difficult time. As his immediate family feels a sense of deep loss, so too do many around the world. Madiba's love and affection was felt by many.

“As we bid farewell to one of the world's greatest statesmen, we take solace in that his legacy lives on. We join multitudes of progressive and freedom loving people around the world and bow our heads in this time of sorrow,” said Mcebisi Jonas, MEC for Economic Development and Environmental Affairs of the Eastern Cape Provincial Government.

“We shall miss Madiba's unparalleled humility, commitment, loyalty and resilience. His immense contribution to humanity continues to touch lives and souls of billions around the world. It is difficult to accept that the light that illuminated even during the most trying times of our history has dimmed forever,” he added.

“In honor of your life’s work, the Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency pledges to keep your flame alive in the significance of  the natural heritage of your birthplace by doing all we can to make it a better place for all,” said Ms Vuyo Zitumane, Chairperson of the ECPTA.

The Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency is a public entity established to market and promote the Eastern Cape as a tourism destination and to ensure biodiversity conservation and sustainable utilization of natural resources inside the province’s nature reserves.
