Kevin Scott: Holiday Concert 8 PM Saturday, Dec. 14 is world premiere of Craig Morris' 'Benjamin Overture,' written for the SUNY Orange Symphonic Band

Kevin Scott, Conductor
Maestro Kevin Scott writes:

Hello, all!

I'm sure many of you know of this by way of my Facebook posting, but for those that don't follow the social media (or choose not to), I am just letting you know of our upcoming holiday concert at the Paramount Theatre in Middletown, New York next Saturday evening (the 14th) at 8:00 p.m.

If you can join us, you're in for a wonderful variety of music, starting with the world premiere of Craig Morris' Benjamin Overture, written for the SUNY Orange Symphonic Band, and continuing with festive classics from the pen of Sammy Nestico (A Fireside Christmas, which is a compilation of some of the best popular Christmas melodies including Frosty, Rudolph and Chestnuts!) and Leroy Anderson (The ever-popular Christmas Festival), garnished with Calvin Custer's Chanukah Is Here, Sean O'Loughlin's Imani and Alan Silvestri's brilliant music from the film The Polar Express.

Kevin Coffey, the band's resident student conductor, will make his official debut with the band, performing Imani and James Hosay's For Unto You Is Born This Day, which will be narrated by Shelly Kornher, a member of SUNY Orange's Apprentice Players. Flutist Danielle Parisi will also perform a concertante selection entitled The Swiss Shepherd by Pietro Morlacchi.

So...unless you're caught in a storm of any sort (Our alternate date for the concert will be Sunday, December 15th at 3:00 p.m.), come on up - or down - to Middletown!

And if not, we have several concerts lined up for the spring semester featuring the music of native African and African-American composers as part of our college's Global Initiative series focusing on the historical, political and artistic legacy of Africa.

Thanks, and have a Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa and Happy Boxing Day!

Yours,

Kevin Scott
