Sphinx Virtuosi National Tour Earns Rave Reviews; 2014 Tour Celebrates Centennial of 'Star Spangled Banner' with Jessie Montgomery Commission

Sphinx Virtuosi (Kevin Kennedy)

Don't miss this opportunity to book the Sphinx Virtuosi, one of the nation's most dynamic professional classical ensembles! The 2014 Sphinx Virtuosi tour, titled "Americana", will feature works by composers such as Duke Ellington, Aaron Copland, John Corigliano, and Phillip Glass. One of the highlights of the program is to celebrate the centennial of the Star Spangled Banner through a new commission by Sphinx Virtuosi Composer-In-Residence, Jessie Montgomery.

The 2013 national Sphinx Virtuosi tour was made possible with the generous support of The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Through The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation’s initial and continued support of the tour over the years, Sphinx has been able to reach over 47,000 in audiences through concerts and community engagement! We thank The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation for their continuing support of the Sphinx Virtuosi and look forward to the 2014 tour.

Additional support for the Sphinx Virtuosi tour was provided by the National Endowment for the Arts, Bloomberg, the Sander and Norma K. Buchman Fund, Aetna, the MetLife Foundation, the Aetna Foundation, the GM Foundation, the Xerox Foundation, PricewaterhouseCoopers, The Linda and Isaac Stern Charitable Foundation, Starlite Media, and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.

The 2013 Sphinx Virtuosi Composer-in-Residence Partnership has been funded by a gift from Linda and Stuart Nelson. Additional support provided by The Bernstein Family Foundation.
