The Nelson Daily: Selkirk Pro-Musica kicks off new season with celebrated Brazilian/Canadian guitarist Celso Machado

Celso Machado (b. 1953) is an Afro-Brazilian classical guitarist and composer who makes his home in Canada. His website is: http://www.CelsoMachado.com. He is also featured at AfriClassical.com.


After a successful inaugural concert season in 2012-13, Selkirk Pro-Musica kicks off a new season September 14th with celebrated Brazilian/Canadian guitarist, percussionist, multi-instrumentalist, composer and music educator Celso Machado.
Opening night of the Selkirk Pro-Musica goes Saturday, September 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the Shambhala Music and Performance Hall at Selkirk College in Nelson.
Celso has performed on concert stages internationally for over 40 years; throughout North America, Europe and Asia. In fact, he just finished touring in Hungary, Slovakia, Mexico, Atlin BC, and Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean - 700 kilometres east of Madagascar.
While Celso's music is rooted in Brazilian rhythmic and melodic styles, it also reflects his incurable fascination with other world music traditions.
He won the 2008 Canadian Folk Music Award for World Solo Artist of the Year, a Leo Award for best original music score for documentary, was nominated for four JUNO Awards in the world music category and another Leo Award for a documentary film score.
