Lawrence Brownlee is
one of the most consistently sought-after artists on the international
scene. His 2011-12 season gave ample demonstration of his eminence as
one of our age’s most acclaimed bel canto tenors. In addition to singing six roles by Bellini, Donizetti and Rossini, he also assumed a new one, Nadir in The Pearl Fishers,
made 12 company/ensemble debuts and appeared in Russia, South Africa
and Slovakia for the first time. Mr. Brownlee’s professional stage debut
took place in 2002 as Count Almaviva in The Barber of Seville
with Virginia Opera, a role he subsequently performed in: Vienna, Milan,
Berlin, Madrid, Berlin, Dresden, Munich, Baden-Baden, Hamburg, Tokyo,
New York, Washington, San Diego and Boston.
Among his other memorable
engagements have been: La Cenerentola in Milan, Dresden, Pesaro, Trieste, Houston, Philadelphia and the Met; L’Italiana in Algeri in Milan, Dresden, Boston and Seattle; I Puritani in Washington and Seattle; Mosé in Egitto in Rome; Il Turco in Italia in Toulouse and Berlin; Tancredi with the Detroit Symphony and on an eight-city European tour with the Orchestre des Champs-Élysées; Il Viaggio a Reims in Genoa (Cavaliere Belfiore) and in Brussels (Conte di Libenskof); Le Comte Ory in Bologna and Reggio Emilia; LArmida at the Met; La Fille du régiment in Hamburg, Cincinnati and at the Met; Daniel Catán’s Florencia en el Amazonas in Seattle; and the world premiere of Lorin Maazel’s 1984 at Covent Garden.

Soprano Janai Brugger, an alumna of the Domingo-Thornton Young Artist
Program, appeared with LA Opera most recently as Musetta in La Bohème. In 2012, she also made debuts with the Metropolitan Opera as Liu in Turandot and with Palm Beach Opera as Juliette in Roméo et Juliette.
She also appeared with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, under the
baton of James Conlon, at the Ravinia Festival as the First Lady in The Magic Flute. Earlier this year, she was a soloist for the Mozart Requiem at the Cincinnati May Festival, also with Mr. Conlon. Future engagements include the Priestess in Aida with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel, Liu with Hawaii Opera, Pamina in The Magic Flute at LA Opera, a return to the Met as Helena in The Enchanted Island, and Micaëla in Carmen
with Opera Colorado. Last year, she was a winner of the Metropolitan
