South African soprano Pretty Yende first came to international attention in 2010 when she was the first artist in the history of the Belvedere Competition to win first prize in every category. In 2011, she was the first prize winner of Placido Domingo's Operalia Competition. A graduate of the Young Artists Accademia of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, she made her La Scala debut in 2010 as Berenice in Rossini's L'Occasione fa il Ladro, returning as  Barbarina in The Marriage of Figaro, Norina in Don Pasquale and Musetta in La Boheme.  In 2013 she made a sensationally acclaimed Metropolitan Opera debut as Countess Adele in Le Comte Ory.
