Elaine Mack: It seems that the Chicago Sinfonietta is not "ours" (implying Black people) as so many claim it to be.

It seems that the Chicago Sinfonietta is not "ours" (implying Black people) as so many claim it to be. When something belongs to you, you have control of its mission, form, scope, and content. Obviously "we" do not have such control or this would not be happening. You can look for a lot more "slaps in the face" as well as other insults from here on from a music director - an obvious politically correct hire - who is simply going along with some neo-liberal program. I am willing to bet that were this orchestra comprised of Asians she would not be pandering to the hip-hop crowd. This is a case of "let the darkies jump and dance"; nothing but modern day minstrelsy. The more things "change" the more they stay the same.
