What: The March on Washington@50: A Bay Area Celebration is a Community Symposium honoring the 50th anniversary of The March on Washington and Martin Luther King Jr’s I Have A Dream Speech
Where: Pacific School of Religion, 1798 Scenic Avenue, Berkeley 94709
When: Saturday, August 17th 9:00 am-5:00pm The event is free and open to the public.
Keynote Speaker: Dr. Clayborne Carson, Editor of The King Papers and Director of The Martin Luther King Jr Research and Education Institute, Stanford University


Details: Presented by Bill Doggett Productions in partnership with The Martin Luther King Jr. Research and Education Institute at Stanford University, Pacific School of Religion and Sojourn To The Past, The Symposium is supported by The Civil Rights@50 Campaign, members of The Berkeley City Council and The Berkeley Chamber of Commerce.

Music of The Civil Rights Movement will be showcased throughout the event in Community Singing of "Freedom Songs" i.e. We Shall Overcome, This Little Light of Mine. Additionally, outstanding new arrangements of classic Negro Spirituals will begin the day performed by Metropolitan Opera associated African American tenor, Lawrence Brownlee and Jazz at Lincoln Center pianist, Damien Sneed in their brand new cd


The Symposium features panel discussions by Bay Area Civil Rights Movement veterans, inter faith leaders, community organizers,leaders of the lgbtq Marriage Equality Movement and youth leaders with their youth organization mentors.
The purpose is to create inter generational conversations and future planning around the legacy themes of Martin Luther King Jr's I Have A Dream speech: Equal Rights, Voting Rights, social justice and coalition building
