McMullen: Festival is right time for Sedalians to shine

The Sedalia summer tourist season is almost upon us, and you know what that means.
The Scott Joplin International Ragtime Festival begins on
Thursday — and the tourists are expecting less of a city and more of a
theme park dedicated to ragtime. Per the Sedalia Residents Guidebook
that we were all issued upon birth, we are all required to be able to
play at least one ragtime song on some sort of pocket-sized instrument,
just in case some ragtripper would dare to question our ragitude.
