Historical Marker Unveiled May 2, 2013 in Chesapeake, Virginia for African American Guitarist and Composer Justin Holland (1819-1887)



Justin Holland, featured at AfriClassical.com, was honored by unveiling of the above historical marker on May 2, 2013 by the Norfolk County Historical Society of Chesapeake, Virginia



CHESAPEAKE
The Norfolk County Historical Society of Chesapeake will host the unveiling of a historical marker at 10 a.m. May 2, which honors Justin Holland (1819-1887).
Born in Norfolk County, Holland was a son of free black parents. He was a professional musician, composer, guitarist and teacher. He was also a Mason and worked toward securing equal rights for African Americans.
The ceremony will be held at the marker location on George Washington Highway at Shell Road. Call 482-1668 or 482-4209 for more information.
