13 and 16: Documentary film premiere: "Samuel Coleridge-Taylor and His
Music in America, 1900-1912." Who was Samuel Coleridge-Taylor? He was an
Afro-English composer who inspired the founding leaders of the American
Civil Rights Movement 100 years ago, among them W. E. B. DuBois,
James Weldon Johnson and Booker T. Washington. This film, a Longfellow
Chorus production, takes you to some unusual places in the U.S. where
Coleridge-Taylor inspired many Americans, and introduces you to a
number of interesting people who tell Coleridge-Taylor's story in
narrative and song. Meet the director and artists from the film in
theater.
