ASALH Celebrates our 97th Anniversary today!

The Association for the Study of African American Life and History celebrates 97 years today!
On September 9, 1915 Carter G. Woodson, founded the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History now the Association for the Study of African American Life and History.

Today we pause to reflect on the work and commitment it took to create and maintain this institution. Woodson and his colleagues had a vision and mission to provide the world with scholarly research that would fill a great void in the history of America and the world.

We also take this opportunity to thank our members and friends who continue in this tradition and provide the service that is the reason for our existence.
Sincerely,

James B. Stewart,
President

Sylvia Y. Cyrus,
Executive Director
Association for the Study of African American Life and History
