John Malveaux: Walt Disney Concert Hall 'approximately 95% filled' by Inner City Youth Orchestra

John Malveaux of www.MusicUNTOLD.com writes:

The Inner City Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles with Charles Dickerson Music Director and Conductor presented ‘A Season Ending Concert’ Sunday, July 8, 2012. In lieu of details about the program and soloists, permit me to make a brief commentary. Due to an inspiring collaboration of corporate sponsors, two County Supervisors, Project 300, multiple churches, National Association of Negro Musicians, Southeast Symphony Association, and numerous other community and professional efforts, the iconic Disney Concert Hall was '  to capacity.

The preconcert lecture was cancelled but I was fortunate to meet up with Earl Ofari Hutchinson, journalist, author, and media critic. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earl_Ofari_Hutchinson.  Several years ago, Earl initiated a meeting or two consisting of diverse individuals and groups to discuss and promote diversity in classical music and opera. Earl expressed strong interest in restarting the project and asked for my opinion. My response reverted back to President Obama's theme four years ago 'YES WE CAN'.

Thanks
John Malveaux
