Safari for your ears!-- A concert
featuring music from across the African continent --

LOUIS (June 11, 2012)—Come
experience the exciting Songs of Africa Ensemble live as they
present, "Sonic Safari," a concert of music in African
languages from a diverse selection of African cultures. Learn how to
say hello in Swahili, a few new dance moves, and what an instrument
called the "udu" is.
The multicultural vocal
ensemble is the featured group on the Arts and Issues Series of Union
Memorial United Methodist Church at 1141 Belt Avenue. The concert
series honors famous African Americans; this year’s honoree is
Sister Mary Antona Ebo, one of six nuns featured in the PBS
documentary special, “Sisters of Selma,” about nuns who
participated in the civil rights march with Dr. Martin Luther King
from Selma to Montgomery Alabama.
The Songs of Africa Ensemble
has performed across Missouri at the Sheldon Concert Hall, the St.
Louis Art Fair, the Festival of Nations, and First Night St. Louis.
Their “Sonic Safari” Workshops and Community Outreach Programs in
schools have been recognized with support from the National Endowment
of the Arts, the PNC Arts Alive program, private foundation support,
and regional support through local corporations such as Boeing,
Enterprise, and the Missouri Arts Council, the Regional Arts
Commission and the Arts and Education Council.
Tickets are
available the day of the concert for a suggested donation of $15.
Books, music, and CD's will also be available for sale at the concert
from African Music Publishers to support the Performing Arts Series
of Union Memorial United Methodist Church. For more information,
