Michael S. Wright: 'Solitude' of Duke Ellington was recorded in 1992 but not issued until 2001

On June 5, 2012 AfriClassical posted: “'Solitude' of Duke Ellington is on Chandos 9909, Recorded byDetroit Symphony Orchestra in 1992.” The post noted that Solitude was recorded on 12 Jamuary 1992, but not released until 2001. Michael S. Wright of the U.K. comments by email:


Bill,
This was done around the time that the William Grant Still symphonies were recorded. Solitude was not issued on the original CD’s. Interesting!!! I had mixed views on the ‘symphonic’ interpretations of Ellington and recourse to listening to the composers own recordings which are illuminating. Regards, Mike”
