Chris Woods, Violinist
International renowned violinist, Chris Woods debuted at age twelve with the Florence Symphony performing the Mozart Concerto in G major.  He began musical training on violin at age four with Thelma Hawkins.  Chris continued private studies with his mother, violinist and composer, Sherry Woods and Won-Mo Kim.  He attended North Carolina School of the Arts, the Harold Conservatory in Florida, University of South Carolina and the Manhattan School of Music with master classes from violinist-violist-conductor, Pinchas Zuckerman.  In the summers of 1999 and 2000, Mr. Woods was awarded a full scholarship to the Henry Mancini Institute and Jazz Philharmonic Orchestra held at UCLA where he served as concertmaster and jazz soloist.  He is the winner of the South Carolina All-State Soloist Competition, Killington Festival in Vermont, Vivaldi Concerto Competition, Daniel Heifetz Festival Vivaldi Concerto Competition in Maryland and Young Artist Competiton of the Greater Spartanburg Philharmonic Orchestra.  Mr. Woods has had the distinction of performing as soloist with the South Carolina Philharmonic, Annapolis Symphony, Greater Spartanburg Philharmonic Orchestra and the USC Orchestra under Donald Pornoy.  He was most recently seen on American Idol.  [Le Chevalier de Saint-Georges (1745-1799) is featured at AfriClassical.com]
