9 Organ Recital: Samuel Coleridge-Taylor Centennial
Commemoration
Samuel
Coleridge-Taylor was born in London in 1875 to African and English
parents. He studied violin at the Royal Conservatory of Music and
composition with Charles Villiers Stanford, who considered him one of
his two most brilliant students. Coleridge-Taylor's fame took him to
the United States on three occasions, where he became intrigued with
African-American spirituals; these melodies were incorporated into a
number of his later works. Joining other Coleridge-Taylor centennial
observations worldwide, John Walko will play selected organ and piano
works; also featured are guest artists Corey Mike (violin) and Brady
Anderson (cello). Join us for a reception immediately following the
recital.”
