[Anthony Davis]
“Although I was unable to attend to first and
final days of THE AFRICAN AMERICAN ART SONG ALLIANCE Roots and
Branches CONFERENCE Feb 9-12, 2012 Claire Trevor School of the Arts -
Music University of California, Irvine, the Friday and Saturday
sessions were historic and reminded me of President Obama’s recent
‘State of the Nation’ covering the past, present, and future.
“High standard
lectures and performances were presented by researchers and first
class artists from coast to coast and even from Munich, Germany. The
70 + page program is a collection item that include a resource
outline by Dr. Hansonia L. Caldwell and reference information from
other noted contributors. Appropriately, the Curator of Music and
Performing Arts of the Smithsonian National Museum of African
American History & Culture was an attendee.
“A significant
number of different professional talent performed works by a wide
range of composers. Special tributes were staged in honor of
composers H. Leslie Adams and Robert Owens. Both composers were in
attendance and Robert Owens performed at length during the gala
event.
“The panel
discussion, PRESENCE of BLACK COMPOSERS in OPERA included H. Leslie
Adams, Adolphus C. Hailstork, Robert Owens, Richard Thompson, and
Anthony Davis. MusicUNTOLD greatly thank and appreciate Dr. Taylor
for 15 years of service and bringing academia, extraordinary talent,
composers and significant others to a single location for learning,
sharing, networking, performances, and several world premieres. I am
INSPIRED.” [H. Leslie Adams and Adolphus C. Hailstork are featured

Bill, What a nice comment by John Malveaux on the AASA Convention. His response was certainly shared by all attendees. H. Leslie Adams
