Brazeal Dennard Chorale presents second annual Legacy Concert Feb. 25 at Bethel AME Church

DETROIT/Feb. 19, 2012—The critically acclaimed Brazeal Dennard Chorale, directed by Dr. Augustus Hill, will present its second annual Legacy Concert on Feb. 25 at Bethel AME Church in Detroit.

The concert will celebrate the musical legacy of African Americans featuring sacred Negro spirituals performed by members of the Brazeal Dennard Chorale and special performances by guest artists, including Detroit Symphony Orchestra bassist Rick Robinson and baritone Emery Stephens. Among the highlights of the afternoon will be the Chorale’s performance of Adolphus Hailstork’s ‘I Will Lift Up Mine Eyes’ featuring soprano Alice McAllister Tillman.

We welcome all segments of our community to observe Black History Month with the Brazeal Dennard Chorale,” said Don Robinson, executive director of the Chorale. “The Chorale belongs to our entire city and region, and we encourage our supporters to bring a family member or friend, so that the music of our ancestors can be appreciated by new audiences.”

Tickets for the Saturday 4 p.m. performance are $25 and can be purchased by contacting the Chorale office at 313-331-0378 or 313-823-5278. Bethel AME Church is located at 5050 St. Antoine near Detroit’s cultural district.

Named after its legendary founder, the late Brazeal Dennard, the Brazeal Dennard Chorale’s mission is to “remember, discover, preserve, and share the Negro spiritual as a part of the artistic community, and to rediscover and perform significant choral works by African American composers.” The Brazeal Dennard Chorale will represent Detroit this summer at the World Choir Games (July 4-14) in Cincinnati.
