Dr. Paul Freeman (b. 1936) is featured at AfriClassical.com as an outstanding
Musician of African Descent. He has brought diversity to every level
of classical performances and recordings. He is Founder, and until
last year was Music Director, of the famed Chicago Sinfonietta.
Audiences, performers, soloists and even the Board of Directors are
inclusive. Dr. Freeman's Black Composers Series on the CBS label was
a major landmark in classical recording, including composers of
African descent from that day and as far back as the 18th
century, with the first U.S. recording of music of Le Chevalier de Saint-Georges (1745-1799). In the era of the compact disc, Maestro
Freeman recorded the African Heritage Symphonic Series in three
volumes on the Cedille Records label, from 2000 to 2003. He has
conducted the Czech National Symphony Orchestra on numerous Albany
Records CDs, including Volume 12, Paul
Freeman Introduces David Baker, Albany
Records Troy 843 (2006).
