On Oct. 18, 2010 we posted our most recent article on Jacqueline Cogdell-DjeDje: “Jacqueline DjeDje's 'Fiddling in West Africa' Wins First 'Kwabena Nketia Book Prize.'” Today she has asked us: “Would you please include information about a new publication on your web site?” Prof. DjeDje provides an introduction and the title of her contribution, Context and Creativity: William Grant Still in Los Angeles:

A collection of essays with an accompanying web site, entitled “Music of Black Los Angeles,” has recently been published as a special issue of the Black Music Research Journal (Spring 2011). Edited by Jacqueline Cogdell DjeDje, the essays focus on a variety of topics: African music, art music, electro hop (a precursor to gangsta rap), Hollywood, holy hip hop, jazz, praise and worship, and spirituals.
