Daniel Marciano Gives Fencing Lesson to Granddaughter Sarah, Who Is In 'Tripode' Position

The fencing performances of the International Saint-Georges Festival were coordinated by Daniel Marciano, who sends us the above photo and newspaper clippings. He writes of the photo at the top: "Here is a picture of my granddaughter hitting me with a 'passata di soto', called 'the low extended lunge' in English.

The first story can be translated as:

“Daniel Marciano, Fencer, Writer and Director
Daniel Marciano was born in 1932. He is the author of a biographical novel on Le Chevalier de Saint-Georges, Le Chevalier de Saint-Georges, The Son of Noémie. He also excels in fencing. He is a member of the National Fencing Commission, and holds the position of National Judge.

“I am absolutely delighted to have been able to invite the actor-fencers of the troupe Tulipe Noire [Black Tulip], he says. These are great fencers and very good actors. What you saw involves considerable work because they are fencing without protection... The company has to train for dozens of hours to develop some of the aspects of combat. And, to have a vast repertoire, the actors read old fencing treatises. Tonight, Guadeloupe has been able to see excellent artistic fencers. I discovered Guadeloupe thanks to artistic fencing. We have been charmed by the kindness of everyone we have met. And we now know that Saint-Georges was born in a delightful place.”

Here is a translation of the second story:
“The Lesson
Daniel Marciano gave a fencing lesson to Sarah, his [grand] daughter, as was formerly done by the master of arms La Boëssiere. The whole gamut of techniques was reviewed...” Daniel writes separately that Sarah is in the “tripode” position, with one hand on the ground.
