When the Nathaniel Dett Chorale performs at 7 PM on March 6 in Barrie, Ontario, it will feature music composed by Sydney Guillaume, who was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti in 1982 and came to the U.S. when he was 11. Sydney Guillaume is a graduate of the University of Miami.

BARRIE - The King Edward Choir has teamed up with special guests the Nathaniel Dett Chorale for a special one-night performance. The concert, under the direction of chorale founder Brainerd Blyden-Taylor is a tribute to Afrocentric music and its influence on choral music today. The program includes spirituals and music reflecting African heritage.”
“Trudy Paterson, King Edward Choir president, said they have been rehearsing for the past two months, and are honoured to be working with the choral. 'This is the third time Brainerd has worked with us. And with his vision it’s been quite exciting to learn the music, about the history, and about the namesake of the chorale, Nathaniel Dett,' she said. While the choir has performed a number of spirituals over the years, the addition of Blyden-Taylor and the chorale is creating a new dimension.”
“The 60-member King Edward Choir will join for the second half, a performance of works by Nathaniel Dett and spirituals. The concert will be held at Collier Street United Church, starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance, or $22 at the door. Youths, 17 and under, are $10.
