Recital of Guitar & Harp Ensembles at Crane School of Music Includes Music of Leo Brouwer

“POTSDAM, NY (11/10/2010)(readMedia)-- The sweet sounds of strings will fill the stage at a joint recital for the Crane Guitar Ensemble and Crane Harp Ensemble at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 19 in Sara M. Snell Music Theatre at SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music.

“The Crane Guitar Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Douglas Rubio, will perform works for guitar duo and guitar quartet, as well as works for flute and guitar. The eclectic program is entirely from the 20th century, and includes music by the Argentine tango king, Astor Piazzolla, Cuban composer Leo Brouwer, Spanish composer Enrique Granados, film composer Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco and minimalist Steve Reich.

“The Crane Harp Ensemble is directed by Dr. Jessica Suchy-Pilalis, professor of harp and music theory. Members of the Crane Harp Ensemble include: Kathryn Sloat, a senior harp performance major; Kathleen Haggerty, a sophomore music education and harp performance major; Kelsey Munz, a music education major, and Mikaela Davis, a music education and harp performance major. The group will perform 'Fugue' by Geza Frid and 'Ma Mère l'Oye' by Maurice Ravel. This concert is free, and the public is invited to attend."
