USCG Band 2010 Performance Schedule
Honoring Black History
The United States Coast Guard Band presents a concert in honor of African American History Month on Sunday, February 14, 2010, at 2 p.m. in Leamy Hall Auditorium at the Coast Guard Academy.
The highlighted work on the program, conducted by Assistant Director CWO3 Richard Wyman, is 'New Morning for the World “Daybreak for Freedom,"' by New Hampshire composer Joseph Schwantner. The work includes the words of Dr. Martin Luther King. Also featured on the concert is music by African-American composers Scott Joplin, Duke Ellington, and William Grant Still. MU1 Lisa Williamson, soprano, performs MUC Ian Frenkel's arrangement of spirituals, 'Songs for Freedom.'
