Dialogue in Music Project: Africa Meets North America
Third International Symposium and Festival
The four-day Dialogue in Music Project festival and symposium at UCLA will focus on intercultural relations between Africa and North America through performances, lectures, workshops by African and North American composers and performers, and scholarly papers and panels on the music of Africa and the African Diaspora.
The project was established in 1990 as a biennial international symposium and festival at the Center for Intercultural Musicology at Churchill College, Cambridge, under the direction of Nigerian composer, musicologist and pianist Akin Euba. Symposia and festivals have been held in several locations around the globe, including China and India. Each symposium and festival contributes to Euba's idea of "intercultural musicology," which encourages creativity between cultures and within musical expressions.
Nightly concerts are free. Registration for all other symposium events is $50 (four days) or $15 (daily). All events are free for students.
