ContactMusic.com: 'Marsalis Lands Top French Honour' in New York City on Nov. 6

The legendary African American trumpeter Wynton Marsalis has made more than 70 recordings. His Discography classifies 18 of them as classical. On October 13, 2009 AfriClassical posted: “'Wynton Marsalis To Perform Free Concert For Fans In New York City', Jazz at Lincoln Center, Nov. 29.” Just two days after the post, it was learned that he will be awarded France's “Legion d'honneur” (Legion of Honor):

“MARSALIS LANDS TOP FRENCH HONOUR
Jazz great WYNTON MARSALIS is to receive France's highest cultural prize, the Legion d'honneur.
The award will be presented to the 48-year-old jazz musician in a ceremony at the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in New York on 6 November (09).

“It's the latest in a long line of accolades for the Grammy Award-winning trumpeter and composer, who won the Pulitzer Prize in music in 1997.”
