In the words of its website, TownHallSeattle.org, “Town Hall is Seattle's community culture center located in the historic First Hill neighborhood, on the edge of downtown.” “Free for All: Celebrating Ten Years of Town Hall” will be held on Sunday May 17, 2009 from 1pm-7 pm. Musical performances will include “...acclaimed violinist Quinton Morris and Friends, playing Mozart and William Grant Still...”. Quinton Morris is the African American violinist who is founding director of The Young Eight, the country's only African American string octet.

The event comes on the heels of the celebration of the anniversary of the birth of William Grant Still on May 11, 1895 in Woodville, Mississippi.  Still was a composer, arranger, oboist and conductor who died in Los Angeles in 1978. He is profiled at AfriClassical.com, which presents a complete Works List compiled by Dr. Dominique-René de Lerma of Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin.
